Sand and Ashes Slot Review

Overview

Sand and Ashes is a 2026 medium‑volatility Hacksaw Gaming slot built around Wild Scarab Multipliers, nudging Sandstorms, Firestorm multiplier boosts and two bonus rounds with escalating Scarab potential. With RTP options ranging from 96.27% down to 86.19% and a max win of 10,000x, this slot mixes classic paylines with Hacksaw’s trademark multiplier chaos. On paper it looks like a strong hybrid — respins, nudges, multiplier stacking, persistent Scarabs — but today’s SlotTribe test run was absolutely dreadful. No bonus hits, barely any multiplier action, and one of the coldest 250‑spin sessions we’ve seen in a long time.

250 Spins Profit/Loss: -205.10

Volatility Feel: Medium (but played like Extreme)

Mick’s Take

After 100 spins of nothing I was thinking surely this can’t get any worse, it has to drop something. This Sand and Ashes slot was complete shit over the full 250 spins. No bonus, barely any Scarabs, and absolutely no signs of life. Obviously it’s going into the Tribe Rejects, but I would be interested to know how this one has played for other players because my session was horrific.

Gameplay & Features

Wild Scarab Multipliers

Wild Scarab Multipliers are the core mechanic of Sand and Ashes.

When a Scarab lands:

  • It triggers a respin
  • It carries a multiplier value up to 200x
  • Respins continue until no new Scarabs land
  • The multiplier applies to all paylines the Scarab is part of during the respin sequence

This creates a chain‑reaction style feature where Scarabs can stack across multiple respins. In theory, a screen full of Scarabs with boosted multipliers can deliver massive wins. In practice, during our test run, Scarabs barely showed up.

Firestorms & Sandstorms

During respins, two storm effects can activate before new symbols land:

Sandstorm

  • Nudges all symbols one reel to the left
  • Can create new paylines
  • Can drag Scarabs into better positions

This is the more tactical storm, shifting the grid to line up wins.

Firestorm

  • Increases the multiplier values of all Wild Scarab Multipliers on the grid

This is the explosive storm — the one that can turn a 20x Scarab into a 200x monster. Firestorms are rare but essential for big wins.

Both storms add volatility and unpredictability, but neither showed up often during our test session.

Bonus Games

Desert Fury

Triggered by landing 3 FS symbols.

You get:

  • 8 free spins
  • Higher chance of landing Wild Scarab Multipliers

This bonus is designed to give more respin chains and more storm triggers. It’s the more common bonus, but still capable of decent wins when Scarabs stack.

Storming Sphinx

Triggered by landing 4 FS symbols.

You get:

  • 10 free spins
  • Persistent Wild Scarab Multipliers

This is the premium bonus. Persistent Scarabs stay on the grid across spins, allowing multipliers to build over time. Combined with Firestorms, this bonus can go absolutely wild and is the main route to the 10,000x max win.

Unfortunately, neither bonus appeared during our 250‑spin test.

Volatility, RTP & Max Win

Volatility: Medium (but can spike heavily)
RTP: 96.27% / 94.21% / 92.30% / 86.19%
Max Win: 10,000x

Graphics & Sound

Sand and Ashes uses a desert‑ruins theme with glowing Scarabs, shifting sands and dramatic storm animations. The nudges and multiplier boosts look great, and the soundtrack builds tension during respins. It’s visually strong, but the gameplay needs Scarabs to land frequently for the theme to shine — and today, they didn’t.

What It Does Well

  • Scarab multipliers up to 200x
  • Firestorms boost multipliers further
  • Sandstorms create new paylines
  • Respins add momentum
  • Persistent Scarabs in the top bonus
  • Strong theme and animations

What It Does Badly

  • Can go long stretches with no features
  • Bonuses can be extremely hard to land
  • Scarabs don’t appear often enough
  • Storms feel too rare
  • Medium volatility feels misleading
  • Can burn balance quickly

Who It’s For

Players who enjoy:

  • Multiplier‑driven slots
  • Nudge mechanics
  • Respins and storm effects
  • High‑potential bonus rounds
  • Hacksaw’s experimental designs

SlotTribe Verdict

Sand and Ashes has the ingredients for a strong multiplier slot — Scarabs, nudges, storms, respins and persistent bonus mechanics. But today’s test run was absolutely dire, with no bonuses and barely any Scarab action. It can undoubtedly pop off when the storms align, but when it’s dead, it’s dead. Straight into the Tribe Rejects.
