The Dog House Dog or Alive Slot Review
SlotTribe 250 Spin Test – Date: 26 October 2026 – Result: -153.65 – Bonuses: 1 – Biggest Win: 24x
Overview
The Dog House Dog or Alive is Pragmatic Play’s 2024 Western-themed entry in the Dog House series, dragging the familiar mutts into a dusty frontier town where bones, collars and the dog squad spin across a 5×3 grid. It keeps the classic Dog House DNA — simple line wins, wild multipliers, and a sticky wild bonus — but this instalment is brutally volatile and absolutely unforgiving when it’s cold.
Wilds appear as sheriff badges on reels 2, 3 and 4, carrying 2x or 3x multipliers that stack when they connect. The bonus is triggered by landing three safe symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5, awarding 5x instantly and then revealing a random number of free spins via a 3×3 grid. During the bonus, any wilds that land stick in the centre of the reels for the entire round, dragging their multipliers with them.
Our SlotTribe test run showed the slot at its absolute worst — one bonus, one mid-range base hit, and a whole lot of dead spins. Dog or Alive can pay when sticky wilds land early, but today it behaved like a dried-out boot left in the desert.

Mick’s Take
This was awful, from start to finish of the 250 spins apart from 1 24x base win. I did hit the bonus once, on spin 207 which I was thinking would be a lifeline. Entered the 10 free spins round sitting on 5x and left sitting on 5x. Dog shit! It’s going in the rejects.

Gameplay & Features
Wild Multipliers
Wilds appear as sheriff badges on reels 2, 3 and 4, each carrying a random 2x or 3x multiplier. When multiple wilds connect, their multipliers stack. These wilds are the only real source of excitement in the base game.
Bonus Trigger – Safe Symbols
The Bonus symbol appears on reels 1, 3 and 5. Landing all three triggers the free spins round and pays 5x instantly. This is the only route into the sticky wild feature.
Random Free Spins Reveal
Before the bonus begins, a 3×3 grid spins automatically, revealing a number of free spins in each cell. These values combine to determine your total free spins. It’s a fun reveal, but if the slot is cold, even a decent number of spins won’t save it.
Sticky Wilds in Bonus
During the bonus, any wilds that land stick in the centre of the reels for the entire round. Their multipliers apply to every win they’re part of. This is the mechanic that can turn Dog or Alive into a proper hitter — but only if the wilds land early.
Bonus Behaviour
The bonus is extremely volatile. Sticky wilds can create massive setups, but if they don’t land, the round collapses instantly. Our test run showed the worst-case scenario: no wilds, no momentum, no payout.
Volatility & Behaviour
The Dog House Dog or Alive behaves like a stubborn high-volatility slot. The base game is slow, with rare mid-range wins and long stretches of nothing. The bonus is the only place where the slot can actually pay, but it’s heavily dependent on early sticky wilds. Without them, the feature dies instantly. Today’s session was a perfect example — one bonus, zero momentum, and a whole lot of dead air.
Graphics & Sound
Dog or Alive leans into its Western theme with dusty streets, wooden signs, and sheriff badges. The dogs are dressed for the frontier, and the soundtrack has that twangy, saloon-style energy. It looks good, but visuals don’t save you when the slot refuses to wake up.

- Wilds rarely land early
- High volatility with long droughts
Who It’s For
Players who enjoy:
- Dog House slots
- Sticky wild bonuses
- High volatility
- Western themes
- Multiplier stacking
SlotTribe Verdict
The Dog House Dog or Alive is capable of big wins when sticky wilds land early, but today it was absolutely dreadful. One bonus, one decent base hit, and nothing else. It’s volatile, moody, and brutally unforgiving — the kind of slot that either pops off or ruins your day. Ours was the latter.
A proper stinker of a session — this one’s getting tossed straight into the rejects.
Anyone believe it shouldn’t be in the Rejects?
